Mat Pilates For Beginners:
Mat Pilates is a strengthening and lengthening form of exercise that focuses on your core (trunk) muscles while also training your arms and legs.
Mat Pilates is based on the original exercises Joseph Pilates developed to strengthen his own body as a young man.
Mat Pilates is a great option for those new to a Pilates practice.
The Benefits:
Pilates is a mind body, and spirit practice with benefits that include, improved posture, better co-ordination and focus, increased body awareness, increased flexibility, strength, balance, increased lung capacity, stress management, and injury prevention.
Your initial assessment will focus on the A, B C's of our pilates work:
*Alignment
*Breathing
*Centering
These are your building blocks as your move forward with your Pilates practice.
We can modify each chosen exercise to decrease or indeed increase the level of difficulty for each individual person, to tailor your session prescriptively.
As you become more proficient in your practice, we can add small equipment:
*Pilates Over Ball
*Foam Roller
*Resistance Band
*Pilates Magic Circle
*Weights
Mat work is a great base to then move to the studio equipment, such as the Pilates Reformer.
"In 10 sessions you'll feel different, in 20 sessions you'll notice a difference, in 30 sessions you'll have a whole new body"

What is a Pilates Reformer:
The reformer was invented by Pilates founder Joseph Pilates. It is a bed-like frame with a flat platform on it, called the carriage, which rolls back and forth on wheels within the frame. The carriage is attached to one end of the reformer by a set of springs.
Pilates Reformer has gained immense popularity, and for good reason. These science-backed benefits not only support your physical well being, but also support your mental and emotional health.
Benefits:
Improved core strength which will contribute to improved posture, better balance, stability which will all help to support your spine, reducing the risk of back pain.
Enhanced flexibility > the controlled movements and stretc hes involved in Reformer Pilates, help to improve your flexibility by combining strengthening and stretching movements together, utilising different levels of resistance, thanks to the pulleys, springs and gravity-driven equipment. This creates more flexibility in the muscles from different angles.
Balance and Stability > Reformer Pilates challenges your body in different planes of motion. This is particularly beneficial as we all age. I like to promote "Active Ageing", and our Reformer practice will help prevent falls and injuries by training your body to maintain stability in various positions.
Natural Energy Boost > The combination of rhythmic movements , controlled breathing and mindful focus in Reformer Pilates promotes relaxation and reduces cortisol levels. This reduction in cortisol helps to switch of our body's flight or fight response and reduce stress levels. These movements also stimulate blood flow, circulating fresh oxygen around the body and releasing endorphins, both of which give you a natural energy boost, so you leave your session feeling better not just physically but mentally.
I also offer studio sessions using the Pilates Chair, Ladder Barrel and Tower, please contact me for more information.

What is Pilates Springboard:
The Pilates Springboard is a plywood board that is securely attached to the wall, complete with springs. The springs attach to the board via eyelets, at different levels to be able to give you differing lengths and tensions together with handles, foot straps and a roll back bar.
The beauty of the springs on this piece of equipment, is that they add resistance and allow for movements designed to specifically target muscle groups and joints. The hight of attachment and the position you hold the spring in with your arms and legs, allows for an enormous number of exercises to be performed in difference positions.
The other key difference, is that much of the work that we'll do is in an open chain position, meaning your limbs are working through space, rather than pressing onto a solid surface like the Reformer foot bar or carriage. This decreases stability making the work more challenging.
The Springboard is also a terrific tool for integrating upright movement patterns and challenging your balance!
